But we don\u2019t. Most parents know more about<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>the difference between the oat milk from Trader Joe\u2019s and the oat milk from Whole Foods<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>than they know about their own kids\u2019 education. (Not an insult, just a fact.) And it\u2019s why I\u2019m writing to you today.<\/p>\n<p>To be clear, I don\u2019t enjoy harping on the fact that conventional education is broken. There are too many rage-baiters and doomsdayers out there: \u201c<em>public school sucks!\u201d\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0<em>\u201csave your kid from public school while you still can!\u201d\u00a0<\/em>I am not one of them. That&#8217;s coming at the problem from the wrong angle. Parents shouldn\u2019t have to ask, \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong with my kids\u2019 school?\u201d They should be asking, excitedly, \u201cHow good can my kids\u2019 school really<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>get?\u00a0<strong>How high is high?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But to answer that, we have to first understand where we are. And to be honest, it\u2019s not pretty.<\/p>\n<p>My goal is to give you the unvarnished truth of our education system as a whole, so you can start building your own opinion and making the best possible decision for your family.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start from the beginning.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"header-anchor-post\">400 BCE: The golden age of personalized education<\/h3>\n<p>For over 1,000 years, education was a deeply personalized experience. It was the golden age of tutors: Socrates tutored Plato, who tutored Aristotle, who tutored Alexander the Great.<\/p>\n<p>You get the picture.<\/p>\n<p>The problem was, only the wealthy could afford high-quality tutors. Personalized learning may have been the pinnacle of education, but it was far from accessible.
